Google E-mail Search Partial Match?

On first glance, it appears that Gmail doesn’t support partial matches. So, if you want to exclude all your messages about coding, you’d want to include “code”, “codes”, “coder”, “coding”, and so on. Can this really be true? Can the mighty Google really offer such a hamstrung search?

It also doesn’t support searching within message headers.   For an e-mail service that relies so strongly on search, I’m hitting the limits very quickly.  Other e-mail programs have searches that can take tens of minutes, but perhaps it’s worth sticking with them until Gmail moves out of beta and hopefully fixes a few of these issues.

Weird…I searched for “gmail search partial match” and you were the first result. Then I poke around and see you know John Tokash and voila! The Homestead connection strikes again…

And yes…Gmail should support partial matching in search.

Wow– that is pretty odd. I don’t think many people find my site via Google. Except, apparently, the people who are hard core enough to have worked at the ’stead. (Does using “the ’stead” invalidate any rightful use of “hard core”?)

Glad you stumbled upon my blog. :)

I found your site via Google, too, using the same keywords. Too bad that partial searching doesn’t exist in Gmail, even as an obscure operator. Bon, c’est la vie!
