Mass Effect
This dialog sequence at SomethingAwful does a surprisingly good job of summing up both the positives and negatives of Bioware’s dialog innovation. Yahtzee, of course, does a good job of summing up all the negative aspects of Mass Effect.
Mass Effect does schizophrenically alternate between aimless wandering with lots of dialog, and long stretches of tense combat. It also saves its chewy goodness until you get all the way to the center of the tootsie pop, but it does finally deliver its epic tastiness. If your brain tends to snack on new RPG systems and content, that should be enough to pull you through to the finish.

Now that I have a 360, I’ve been wondering whether I should get this. Did you enjoy it? I liked playing KOTOR2, but only enough to play through it once.
A lot of HS folks are playing Halo 3 now, you should join in!

I definitely enjoyed it. I’m an RPG junkie, so I’ll overlook a lot– I’ve enjoyed every Bioware RPG. The review scores are super high too, so I’m not the only one overlooking ME’s flaws. If you’re looking for a new RPG to play, I can recommend ME– I was overall quite satisfied with it. If you’re not sure you want to put up with an RPG, though, you could probably pass. You can always borrow my copy if we ever see each other.
I was waiting on Halo until I got my new headphones with mic, which was delayed until March. And until my new TV, which was also delayed. Doh! I’ll try to kludge together some sort of headphone solution when I get my new TV this week.

Sounds fun! I might have to take you up on that offer to borrow it. I enjoy RPGs, but don’t always have the endurance to finish them.
What kind of TV are you getting? Something awesome?

In theory. I first ordered it in late December, and it’s estimated for delivery on the 28th. Here’s a tip: don’t order TVs from Amazon. (If the new company comes through, I’ll have a recommendation for a much better seller.)
