Longest Console Game Install Ever?
I just saw this bit of news that Devil May Cry forces a 21+ minute install the first time you play it on the PS3. While it’s still got nothing on the PC, this sounds like a first on a console. That’s still preferable to the infamous WWE PS3 loading time, which happens every time you play, but I would’ve definitely been shocked to discover the latest game I bought had a 21 minute unskippable concept art cutscene up front.

I find it quite amusing that while consoles seem to be taking more and more of the game market from the PC (at least it feels that way when I browse through the game aisles at Fry’s), the consoles themselves are becoming more like PCs. I think you can even hack up a first generation xbox to run linux, so its arguable that console hardware is a pc at this point, with a very specialized fixed set of hardware to run on. I guess that is part of the point though - console developers don’t have to worry about which version of direct X you have and how well it will run on this graphics card or on different processors.
